Motor Vehicle Registrations

 

The Rusk County Sheriff's Department is an authorized temporary license plate agent.  To receive temporary license plates from the Rusk County Sheriff Department, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Bring in the vehicle's title.  The title must be signed by the seller and buyer, the selling price filled in and the odometer statement completed (if vehicle is 10 years old or newer).  If the title lists a lien holder, a lien release or satisfaction of lien must be provided by the lien holder.
  2. The Department of Motor Vehicles form MV1 must be completed.  This form can be obtained online or at the Rusk County Sheriff's Department.
  3. The following fees must be collected: 

           Title transfer fee = $69.50

           5.5% sales tax on purchase price (if sales tax was already paid, buyer must show proof)

           License plate fees:

           Auto = $75       Truck (4,500 lb) = $75       Truck (6,000 lb) = $84       Truck (8,000 lb)= $106

           Temporary license plate fee = $3

           Loan Filing Fee = $10 (only if buyer has a lien on the vehicle)

 **Payment methods for the above fees are: Check or Money Order made payable to Registration Fee Trust (we CANNOT accept cash for these fees)**

            Separate Window/counter fee = $5

**Payment methods for the window/counter fee are: Cash, Check or Money Order made payable to the Rusk County Sheriff's Department**

Temporary license plates are only issued during regular office hours of

Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), 7:30 am - 4:30 pm.
