The duties of the office of the county treasurer are set forth by State Statute 59.25,which includes receiving all moneys from all sources belonging to the county or by statute or county ordinance are directed to be paid to the Treasurer, such as real estate taxes, state and federal aids, credits, grants and fees for services provided.
The Treasurer’s office pays out all moneys belonging to the county on the order of the county board, including disbursement for expenses incurred, debt payment and the county’s payroll. All checks are printed and signed in the Treasurer’s office and disbursed from there.
The Treasurer is responsible for the daily depositing of receipts into the local bank, maintaining accurate records of all account balances, and investing excess funds to maximize earnings while minimizing risk.
The Treasurer maintains a complete record of all taxes paid, postponed or delinquent, including collecting postponed or delinquent taxes, and eventually assists the county clerk in taking tax deed on delinquent parcels.
The Real Property Lister in the Treasurer’s office maintains records of all real property ownership in the county and prints name of owner and legal description of each parcel in assessment rolls, tax rolls, to include working with assessors and clerks to balance assessment and tax rolls.
The Treasurer annually furnishes to the Department of Revenue the completed tax roll settlement sheets after assisting the local municipalities with their settlement, then makes settlement with all taxing jurisdictions in August for all taxes collected and uncollected.
Claims for the Lottery and Gaming Credit are made in the Treasurer’s Office. A taxpayer must both have owned and lived in his home on January 1 of the tax year to be eligible.
2007 Plat books are available for sale in the Treasurer’s office. COST IS $25. They may either be picked up at the office for $25 or send a check for $28<
