Mission Statement

The mission of the Rusk County Land and Water Conservation Department is to carry out the policy of the Wisconsin Legislature "to halt and reverse the depletion of the state's soil resources and the pollution of its waters."

This is done through the administration of various educational, technical, and financial programs, which assist agencies, governmental units and land users in the management, and protection of our natural resources.

History of Department:

The Land and Water Conservation Department was established by State Law for the purpose of administering the conservation program in each specific county.

Examples of Programs that LWCD Administers:

Writing conservation farm plans to guide farmers in protecting soil and water resources.
Install conservation practices such as ponds, waterways, and agricultural waste storage structures
Educational programs such as, Environmental Challenge, Earth Day Poster contest, Annual local and area Speaking contests, etc.
Administering various conservation programs: grants, and laws. For example, Farmland Preservation Program, Lake Planning, NR 243, Land Information, Food Security Act, Wetland Programs, Priority Watershed Program, Environmental Challenge, and Conservation Camp
Sell topographic maps and trees
Provide soils information
Provide copies of aerial photographs
