Big Bend Recycling Site
Saturday (4/1 - 10/31) 8 am - Noon
Recycling and garbage collection are on the second and fourth Saturdays from November through March; every Saturday from April through October. Hours are 8 a.m. until noon.
The recycling site is located at the Big Bend Town Hall just south of the junction of CTH D and Hwy 40.
What can I recycle at the Big Bend Site?
Recycling is FREE, garbage is $1.75 per bag up to 13 gallons, $3.25 per bag from 14-32 gallons or $5.00 for the larger lawn and leaf bags.
Anyone can bring garbage to the Town of Big Bend site as long as they pay the required amount.

The Register of Deeds Office is open to Genealogy Researchers during our regular business hours of 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday thru Friday. An Application must be signed with proof of identity for all searches. It is NOT necessary to make an appointment to search our records.
The Subdivision Control Ordinance regulates the division of land within all unincorporated areas of Rusk County in order to provide safe and orderly land divisions. It applies to all divisions of land less than 10 acres. Surveys are required for these divisions. Provisions are made for minimum lot sizes, access roads and other concerns such as floodplain, wetlands and topography.

Floodplain is the land which has been or may be covered by floodwater during a regional flood - which is a flood that has a 1% chance of occurring in any given year. The Rusk County Floodplain Zoning Ordinance is designed to protect life, health and property. Other purposes of the ordinance include the need to minimize rescue and relief efforts, business interruptions, damage to public facilities and expenditures of public moneys for costly flood control projects. It also discourages the victimization of unwary land and home buyers and prevents increases in regional flood heights that could increase flood damage on other properties. Permits are required for all development in floodplain. Landowners who wish to develop in these areas may be required to complete surveying and/or engineering in order to determine site specific elevations and/or base flood elevations in areas that do not have detailed studies.
Flood insurance is a requirement of most lenders for properties in floodplain. This is NOT a requirement of the Rusk County Zoning Office. Rusk County was reinstated into the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in August of 2012.

The County Surveyor does not do surveys for private individuals. Should you need the services of a surveyor, this office can provide a list of all surveyors, to our knowledge, that work in the county and also which surveyors have done the most work in your section or area.
